What do we mean when we say ‘I have Jesus in my heart’? Is this an internal consumption of his blood and flesh or something else? Let’s look closer here what it means spiritually to having Christ in our hearts.

This is an enigma. We like to say “I have Christ in my heart” or “I know Jesus personally”.
1 Cor. 13:12:: For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face; now I know in part, but then I will know fully just as I also have been fully known.
Mark 10:17-18::
As He was setting out on a journey, a man ran up to Him and knelt before Him, and asked Him, “Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”
And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good except God alone.
1 Cor. 2:11-12:: For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so the thoughts of God no one knows except the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may know the things freely given to us by God,
Romans 11:33:: Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and unfathomable His ways!

==> Receiving the Spirit equivalent to receiving the Father and the Son. Abiding in him requires obedience.
John 14:16-17 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, 17 even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.
John 14:20:: In that day you will know that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you.
John 14:23:: Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our abode with him.

This all mixed together under doctrine of the trinity

Heb. 4:12 Word of God cuts where soul meets spirit
Virkler: inner man = heart = man’s spirit (motivations, attitudes, emotions ==> character). Soul contains heart which contains the spirit. God’s spirit joined to our spirit.
1 John 3:24:: The one who keeps His commandments abides in Him, and He in him. We know by this that He abides in us, by the Spirit whom He has given us.
Here the commandment is to believe on the name of the Son Jesus Christ and to love one another, which includes the golden rule.

that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner man,
so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; and that you, being rooted and grounded in love,
dunamis is strength or power or ability (same word as Acts 1:8)
His Spirit in the inner man brings Christ into your heart.
— Techically we don’t ask Christ into our heart.

Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me.

You must be able to hear his voice. Can a non-christian hear his voice? John 10:3 – the sheep hear his voice. The Loadicean church was lukewarm, we talked 2 weeks ago about the Lord’s discipline and how in the Corinthian church some were weak and sickly because they did not properly observe the Lord’s body during communion. Verse talks about communion with him, not salvation
==> Salvation is a heart issue, not head issue
Romans 10:9-10 requires public confession as Yeshua as Lord and trusting in your heart that God raised him from the dead
For in the heart one keeps on trusting toward righteousness and keeps on confessing toward salvation
soteria – typically means salvation (sometimes deliverance)
confesses (NASB) implies keeps on making
Gal. 4:19:: My children, with whom I am again in labor until Christ is formed in you
Apostle Paul calls the Galatians foolish and under a spell for going back to Torah legalism and not trusting what they heard and being faithful. Christ had to be reformed in their hearts due to their foolishness! In the parable of the prodigal son (Luke 15:32) he was dead but brought back to life, lost but has now been found
